On Saturday 2nd March 2019, the UK port of Southampton will play host to the christening of the brand new MSC Cruises flag-ship, MSC Bellissima. Currently under construction at the STX France shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, MSC Bellissima will become the biggest ever ship to be christened in the UK, with the event marking the second time that an MSC Cruises ship has been christened in the country, following MSC Poesia in 2008.
As a new flagship, MSC Bellissima represents a further evolution of the award-winning MSC Meraviglia, her sister-ship, which came into service in 2017, and will spend her first season in the Western Mediterranean before heading to the Emirates for the winter season. Surpassing all expectations in grandeur, innovation and entertainment, MSC Bellissima will offer a range of new features and experiences for guests on board.
Taking innovation and service one step further, MSC Cruises will introduce artificial intelligence on board MSC Bellissima to serve guests’ every need, with a new voice-enabled cruise personal assistant. The feature comes as an advancement to MSC for Me, the Company’s digital innovation programme.
The first-class entertainment offering will not only delight guests with two brand new shows from Cirque du Soleil at Sea, created exclusively by the world leader in entertainment, Cirque du Soleil, but the theatre will offer spectacular West-End style entertainment each evening. And it doesn’t end there, as the two-deck inside promenade features the longest LED dome at sea, at an iconic 80-metres, lined with a plethora of places to shop, eat and drink to suit all tastes and styles.
Since the first dock was inaugurated in 1843, the port of Southampton has been crucial to British tourism, commerce and industry, and is now the UK’s main cruise port. The christening of MSC Bellissima will be an important moment for MSC Cruises, showcasing a continued commitment to servicing the UK with cruises in 2018 on MSC Magnifica and in 2019 on MSC Preziosa, two stunning ships that embody MSC Cruises’ Mediterranean flavour with a unique British twist.
Southampton is not only proving a popular port with British guests, but now travellers from around the world can experience breathtaking sights such as Stonehenge and the bustle of London on specially created excursions on cruises calling at the port.
